I launch iBridge Player in August 2010 and in that time I have tried to entertain and create something new for my subscribers with each post. As it’s New Year’s day tomorrow and it is already 22:43, I thought I would just give you a heads up on the year’s most interesting articles. Of course, some of the early ones were not read by many people because nobody new the website existed. First up What Bridge holidays have you been on and, if they were a hotel chain which hotel chain would they be… Were they the Rolls Royce of holidays or the rusty tricycle? One of my aspirations is to introduce the Bridge world to the 21st century. Like a naughty child it would seem Bridge needs people like me to drag it kicking and screaming as it digs its heels into the ground. But as my mum used to say, “You’ll never know if you like it or not, unless you give it a try!” Bridge basics is very straightforward. After following this first video you will certainly be able sit at a table, play for tricks and have a good time doing so. Kids will find the video particularly easy to follow. Once you have viewed my video, I would suggest that it is best to just play at this level for a while, get a feel for the card play, and have fun. Don’t worry about whether you are following the rules to the letter, because as you progress it will all become clearer. I Recently, I was told that the governing bodies of Bridge were extremely slow to endorse the simplification of the Bridge for teaching purposes. Apparently, it took decades for ‘mini-bridge’ to be embraced as a key and indispensible tool for teaching youngsters (‘Mini-Bridge is a simplified form of ‘Contract Bridge’ which was first introduced into France and Netherlands in the 90s and later taken up by the ‘English Bridge Union’ – EBU and other governing bodies) – From what I understand, much of the resistance was due to the feared ‘dumbing down’ of the ‘precious’ Bridge game. I just thought I should emphasise that I am currently working on finishing the design and layout of this Bridge blogsite at the moment. Consequently, the first Bridge related posts will not be happening until 1st August. The content will not be so much about card play strategy (because there are lots of good sites doing this… |
