This week I met the man in charge at PlayBridgeDealer4, Terry Collier.
The elusive Terry Collier PlayBridgeDealer4.com boss
Most people know of PlayBridgeDealer4 from the dealing machine they make for Bridge tournaments, clubs and the ACBL et al.
Watch my new ‘Jazzed up’ video demonstration.
I’ve taken the standard video from the the playbridgedealer4 website and made some changes Read on. . .
How do you officiate at a Bridge Club when you are being challenged forcefully?
One of the issues that clubs have is that of the “Reluctant Director”.
Last week, Dave left this comment after my post ‘A Baptism of fire at the Bridge Club‘:
At my club one night, when the auction had been completed, the other three Read on. . .
Myths are perpetuated for a reason.
I’ll leave you to decide what those reasons are after you have read this post:
Contract Bridge myths are difficult to dispel – It’s better to confuse them
Myth #1:
Contract Bridge is a card game for spindly old ladies.
Here we have a derogatory statement with a bit of weightism, ageism and sexism Read on. . .
For 8 months I have been providing the kind of Bridge blog posts that I GUESSED would entertain and give readers something that they might be hankering for in Bridge.
And I have really enjoyed doing this.
But I want to do much better than ‘guess’ what you want me to write about. I want to celebrate iBridge Read on. . .
The most incredible defence I’ve ever heard about in Bridge is the performance given by James Reed:
After calling her husband “a bum Bridge player” Myrtle Bennet was apparently slapped about the face several times, following an evening of Bridge in their home in Kansas City!

Most players are familiar with signalling to partner to indicate whether they like a suit or not. Typically this occurs after a lead:

Could you stand in front of a hall of 100 primary school children who have never held a deck of cards before, and in the space of 1 to 2 hours have them sitting in absolute silence as they finger through their cards whilst playing Mini bridge.
It can be done using a revolutionary new system.
In this post, I comment on Matt Betts’ article in English Bridge Magazine where he tells of the EBU’s impressive schools Bridge teaching programme. Read on. . .

I remember the first time I plucked up the courage to play online Bridge – I was very nervous. This fear is not just about playing Bridge and the worry of messing things up for the partner you pair with. The main concern I first had related to the technology: The user interface on the gaming site, knowing how to write messages, understanding the lingo, working out how to navigate around the site etc. All in all, it is quite a scary undertaking.
This week I thought I would provide an introductory video.

I want to tell you about something that happen to me whilst I was playing on the BridgeBase Online (BBO) website last week. I was given this hand:
AKxxx A AQxx AQx
and was busy counting my points enthusiastically. I particularly like the look of that singleton heart A!
But then guess what? Read on. . .

Recently, I had an exchange of emails with members of the Bridge Grades Consortium. Things are gradually gathering pace.
Following a meeting of one of the Bridge associations, we now have this voluntary group who are busy formulating a system that we can trial – this year!!. I am very excited about it. We have computer software written with example questions… I am amazed at how quickly this has taken off. They have also authored a selection of deals which can be printed via the Andrew Robson Arrow Card system. Read on. . .
