How can a great Bridge blog benefit you?

For 8 months I have been providing the kind of Bridge blog posts that I GUESSED would entertain and give readers something that they might be hankering for in Bridge.
And I have really enjoyed doing this.

But I want to do much better than ‘guess’ what you want me to write about. I want to celebrate iBridge Read on. . .

How to play online Bridge with BridgeBase online: Part 2 video demo

A couple of weeks ago I provided an introductory video on how to use the BridgeBase Online Bridge gaming site.

This week I thought I would go into a bit more detail with video demo no. 2 – ‘A guide to playing online Bridge’ below: Read on. . .

BridgeBase Online – A step by step Intro on Playing Online Bridge

I remember the first time I plucked up the courage to play online Bridge – I was very nervous. This fear is not just about playing Bridge and the worry of messing things up for the partner you pair with. The main concern I first had related to the technology: The user interface on the gaming site, knowing how to write messages, understanding the lingo, working out how to navigate around the site etc. All in all, it is quite a scary undertaking.

This week I thought I would provide an introductory video.

An Incident at the virtual BridgeBase Online table

I want to tell you about something that happen to me whilst I was playing on the BridgeBase Online (BBO) website last week. I was given this hand:

AKxxx A AQxx AQx

and was busy counting my points enthusiastically. I particularly like the look of that singleton heart A!

But then guess what? Read on. . .

“Contract Bridge” – What to look out for in 2011?

Recently, I had an exchange of emails with members of the Bridge Grades Consortium. Things are gradually gathering pace.

Following a meeting of one of the Bridge associations, we now have this voluntary group who are busy formulating a system that we can trial – this year!!. I am very excited about it. We have computer software written with example questions… I am amazed at how quickly this has taken off. They have also authored a selection of deals which can be printed via the Andrew Robson Arrow Card system. Read on. . .

What is a “Contract Bridge” Google Group?

ast week, right at the end of the post about “Bridge holidays”, I mentioned that I had come up with a very interesting thought and that I was eager to see what you thought about it. It remains to be seen whether, in truth, this idea will work or whether it is going to be a flop, but guess what? – I need volunteer guinea pigs to test it out… But don’t run away squeaking in all directions, this isn’t going to hurt. How can you connect with other Bridge players?

One of my aspirations is to introduce the Bridge world to the 21st century. Like a naughty child it would seem Bridge needs people like me to drag it kicking and screaming as it digs its heels into the ground.

But as my mum used to say, “You’ll never know if you like it or not, unless you give it a try!” Read on. . .

How to Play Bridge – a free resource guide

I want to make things easier for people to find out how to play Bridge. I thought I would produce a free video guide to help point individuals in the right direction – Most, have preconceptions about Bridge that are far off mark. Also, if you are thinking of learning how to play, you may well have done some internet searches and ended up confused and more frustrated than when you started. Read on. . .

Teaching Children Bridge – 5 futuristic insights

Recently, I was told that the governing bodies of Bridge were extremely slow to endorse the simplification of the Bridge for teaching purposes. Apparently, it took decades for ‘mini-bridge’ to be embraced as a key and indispensible tool for teaching youngsters (‘Mini-Bridge is a simplified form of ‘Contract Bridge’ which was first introduced into France and Netherlands in the 90s and later taken up by the ‘English Bridge Union’ – EBU and other governing bodies) – From what I understand, much of the resistance was due to the feared ‘dumbing down’ of the ‘precious’ Bridge game. Blog Launch – 1st August

I just thought I should emphasise that I am currently working on finishing the design and layout of this Bridge blogsite at the moment. Consequently, the first Bridge related posts will not be happening until 1st August.

The content will not be so much about card play strategy (because there are lots of good sites doing this… Read on. . .
